Into the Future
In 1928, Clarence Mumme Sr. embarked on a journey that would lay the foundation for what is now known as Mumme’s, starting with his first brood of 100 laying chicks. Over the decades, through dedication and hard work, his modest venture transformed into a thriving enterprise. By the late 1960s, Mumme’s had grown significantly, establishing itself as one of the largest businesses in South Central Texas.
Today, Mumme’s continues to build on Clarence Mumme Sr.’s legacy, operating two state-of-the-art grain-receiving facilities and retail stores strategically located in the Hondo and Pearsall communities. These facilities are equipped with efficient grain handling and processing capabilities, ensuring that Mumme’s remains the leading grain elevator in Medina and surrounding counties. This strategic expansion and investment in infrastructure have allowed Mumme’s to not only sustain its operations but also support the local agricultural community extensively.
Mumme’s retail stores are a testament to the company’s deep-rooted connection to the region’s farm and ranch community. However, their reach extends far beyond these traditional boundaries. The stores cater to the diverse needs of the Texas wildlife industry and serve as a go-to destination for anyone who enjoys an outdoor lifestyle. This broad customer base reflects Mumme’s commitment to quality and service, providing products that meet the varied needs of its clientele.
A flagship product that has garnered widespread recognition is Mumme’s deer corn. This product, celebrated for its quality, is prominently featured in Buc-ee’s, H-E-B, Circle K and Murdochs locations across Texas. This presence in major retail outlets underscores the trust and reputation Mumme’s has built over the years. The availability of Mumme’s deer corn in these well-known stores also highlights the company’s ability to scale its operations while maintaining the high standards that customers expect.
The success of Mumme’s is a story of growth, community engagement, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. From its humble beginnings with a single brood of chicks, the company has expanded its footprint significantly. The grain-receiving facilities ensure that Mumme’s can handle large volumes efficiently, supporting local farmers and the broader agricultural sector. Meanwhile, the retail stores provide a comprehensive range of products that cater to various aspects of rural and outdoor life.
Mumme’s has managed to stay true to its roots while evolving to meet the demands of a changing market. The continued presence in major retail chains like Buc-ee’s, H-E-B, Circle K and Murdochs signifies not just commercial success but also the enduring legacy of Clarence Mumme Sr. His vision and hard work laid the groundwork for a company that today stands as a pillar in the community, supporting local economies and contributing to the lifestyle of many Texans. In essence, Mumme’s embodies the spirit of innovation, community, and quality, characteristics that have propelled it from a small-scale operation to a household name in Texas.
